objets d'art

Lovely stones hugged in cloth. Time to begin thinking about long walks in Spring and collections anew. Small studies in contrast, objets d'art to treasure. Resurrection fern found via Lou et Tom. And while patiently awaiting the chill to subside, see this brilliant project here making beautiful use of Toast.

Good info. here for parents and those who craft things for children. Thanks, Jess.

papierkultur

My former self ran a small graphic design studio and fortunately I still receive those coveted and deliciously tactile paper promotions. A favorite from afar has always been Gmund of the Mangfall valley area of Germany. Their 180 year history and dedication to 'the aesthetic power of paper' is deeply embedded in their product and practice. All employees are experienced paper-makers understanding the craft and ingredients in creating an exquisite sheet. And on par with their paper is their ecological standard of excellence, paying particular care to water and wood. The factory itself seems to have captured time with selectively functional modern updates. I imagine it has a life of its own, stoic and steady, churning out thinly sliced cotton awaiting the next novel or sketch. Do see for yourself in their updated shop and check for your local distributor. This paper is worth of framing alone and the swatch books belong between classics.

small but good

A few outtakes from the recent shoot by Small magazine. This brilliant publication showcases sublime design for little folks and I'm so thrilled to be included in this season's issue! Gorgeous styling by Olivia Pintos-Lopez and images photographed by Grant Cornett and Lesley Semmelhack. The cleverly curated content boasts drawings, paper and whimsical and unique finds. I'm particularly taken by Judith Needham's willow weavings, absolutely magical. Happiest birthday to editors Christine and Olivia for three prosperous, fanciful and no doubt fun years.

...and puppydog tails

Tipping my toe into the other half of the market, little boys are again making a small appearance this Spring. Trunks made for moving of 100% organic cotton knit, hand-dyed warm gray or natural ecru pointelle. With a twill ribbon drawstring and three button closure, they're super-soft with room to grow. As always, our cotton is grown in the U.S. and hand-sewn locally. For preschool or playtime, sport these sweet trunks as a staple this Spring.

oh sweet spring

I'll be posting on new items in the shop this week. First a fruitful collaboration with the lovely Lotta of inleaf design. We are thrilled to have her hand-printed ferns gracefully adorn our vintage linen halter. Soft and flaxy, backed with tissue-weight organic voile, the halter gently gathers with a drawstring neckline to adjust as your little one grows. Perfect for layering or wear bare and breezy. The halter has been created with care in a small edition, reinforcing the idea of craft, collaboration and reclaiming. It breaths new life and beautifully ushers in sweet Spring.

belle oubli

Hauntingly beautiful figures softly welling from the surface itself. The work of French artist, Alexandre Day is gorgeous, caught between faded vintage photos and beautifully hand-rendered sketch. The gaze of his subjects, both preoccupied and pointed, welcome our eyes upon them. His drawings truly mesmerize, like ash on a surface taking form, enveloped within an ethereal white space. His blog here, his muse here. Beautiful oblivion, indeed.

Are you willing to be sponged out, erased, cancelled, made nothing? Are you willing to be made nothing? Dipped into oblivion? If not, you will never really change.

adorn

If I could horde these by the piles I would. Soft luxurious waves of delicately reworked cashmere. Indeed, beautiful pieces to covet. I must admit I already have several, wraps and scarves and shrugs, oh my! As delightful to give as they are to get and all responsibly created of reclaimed cashmere. Jen Sertl of Angelina Accoutrements, has honored her Italian heritage of textile artisans and stitched her way into solid footing amongst her family tree. Her work is exquisite; trimmed in velvet, embellished with found beading and finished with a bit of whimsy and romance. Whether lusciously thick or whispery weightless, the reworked cashmere is hand-selected and cut with care, finding unique form in every piece. Jen also happily works directly with you to freshen up cashmere in your closet! Simply lovely and effortlessly stylish, a seamless transition from crisp Winter to cool sweet Spring. Adorn yourself (or give a subtle mention to your Valentine) and look for her site and shop updates soon.

ollie

Hi.

This may or may not be a deal-breaker for you...I'm hoping for 'not.'

I wanted to let you know, Oliver has a lovely, fresh circle of 'teeth'
imprints on his left cheek. They might be gone by Friday, but I don't know?

~note from Ollie's mom regarding our photoshoot tomorrow. Gave me such a laugh, I had to share. No doubt the shoot will be quite funny with three toddlers running amok. Posting Spring images and shop updates next week, please visit!
