modern mangle

A 'mangle' is a pure linen cloth that was used to help smooth precious garments. Nestled together, the fabrics pass through a press under high heat, protected and wrinkle-free. The 'mangle' is tightly woven, standing the test of time yet washes to a well-worn pillowcase softness. Hence periwinklebloom's 'mangle' dress for Spring. Reclaimed and refashioned of vintage cloths, our flouncy loose dress gently ties with a drawstring neckline and billows and bounces. Stripes will vary according to remnant but most come in shades of tomato reds and warm white, hitting just around the knee. Each piece is cut with care, hand-sewn and often created in an edition of two or three. Grows from dress to tunic, wear layered or bare, the sweetest complement to picnic fare and sunny skies.
