food for thought

And summer has officially begun...the Memorial weekend kickoff of grilled buttery corn, creamy dips, crispy greens and iced tea glasses just barely beginning to sweat. The call to your senses, fresh and nostalgic, beneath a warm blue sky. 'Tis the season as well for fairs, festivals and farmers markets. A gentle reminder too 'think local' as you prepare your next feast or dish up your daily snack. Our Tower Grove market is thriving here in St. Louis touting seasonal fare and rotating vendors. Hot topics such as the 'politics of food' will also find center stage next to the homegrown rhythms of the Midwest. No doubt these markets pepper the country during the summery months, so why not indulge? The beginning of a slow season for slow food. Kindly consider a family outing, the juiciest ingredients, cleaner air and a collaborative community.

And for those who want to take the beauty home, Baileys of the UK, reclaims those apple crates, milk glasses and flea market finds (great ideas, images above). Their lovely decor is simplistic, functional and barely whispers white. A perfect backdrop for your vivid market veggies.

Lovely site. I saw your comment on another blog that you had posted something about Winslow's Home. I came here to see it. Though I didn't find it yet, I have very much enjoyed your perspective and your photos.

I love simple, straightforward, and yet unusual decorating ideas like those crates for shelves - great stuff!

Thanks for linking this post up to my bookcase linky, it's been a real treat to find your blog. I don't think I've come across a name I've liked more in ages.... Periwinklebloom is just so gorgeous.

Linda. xx :)

I've admired that crate photo forever. My crate dreams almost came true one time when I saw a Craigslist listing offering up to 20 crates for $5 each! Unfortunately, someone else beat me to them. Glad I found your blog. I'm off to take a look around.
